Steven G. Pratt, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a recognized world authority on the prevention of eye disease, particularly macular degeneration, and has been widely published in peer review journals. Pratt lectures nationally and internationally on the benefits of a diet based on the synergy of consuming whole foods and adopting healthy lifestyle choices as a means to prevent all major chronic diseases. He is the author of SuperFoods HealthStyle: Proven Strategies for Lifelong Health, and the New York Times best-seller SuperFoods Rx: Fourteen Foods That Will Change Your Life, which, to date, has been translated into 15 languages throughout the world. Pratt has appeared on most national media including the Today Show, Oprah (where he is known as “Our Food Dude”), and The View.
Pratt was born in Los Angeles, California and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California. He attended Jefferson Medical College under a United States Naval Scholarship and is proud of his 26-year affiliation with the United States Navy. Pratt completed his internship and ophthalmology residency at the United States Naval Hospital, San Diego, California. He completed his fellowship training in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery at The Harvard Medical School.
Pratt currently serves as a senior staff ophthalmologist at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California. He helped create the Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Department at the University of California, San Diego and remains on the Medical School’s staff as an Assistant Clinical Professor. He has been voted “One of San Diego’s Top Doctors” by his San Diego peers.
A resident of Southern California, Pratt, along with his wife Patti, has raised four children in a lifestyle dedicated to health and well-being. His deep faith in the power of Nature has also contributed to his interests in organic gardening and wildlife conservation.
